Book Report 3, Leven Thumps and the Gateway to Foo
Leven Thumps and the Gateway to Foo by Obert Skye is a fantastic fantasy novel for children and teens. I enjoyed reading it, but I do believe that certain thing could have been changed to help the reading value of the book.
It’s about an unloved and strange boy named Leven and a peculiar, but powerful girl named Winter. In the beginning they are apart but once they gain their powers, and Leven gets his burn, Winter travels to Oklahoma and they meet. They leave all their past life behind in search for Geth, the prince in charge in Foo, and the gateway for Foo so they can travel back to where they belong.
They search for days and have many troubles because of Sabine, they person cause havoc in Foo. He sends his shadow to find out who is going to destroy the gateway so he may destroy them first. Sabine is trying to gain full control of Foo and the real world so he can have ultimate power. But Leven, Winter, Leven’s Burn (A small create from Foo), and Geth are on their way to destroy the gateway so Sabine can never go to the real world.
Once Leven, Winter, and Geth get to the lake in Germany they run into Sabine. He had gotten through the gateway. Since his shadows have been haunting his dreams Leven is weak and hasn’t slept in a few days it is hard for resist. He is almost overpowered but the make it through the gateway and destroy it, leaving Sabine in shadow pieces in the real world.
I think there was a lot that could have been done to make this story a better. I believe that there should have been more description. Like when he was describing Leven I never got a clear idea what he looked like from just reading it. Also when he was describing Foo at the very end I couldn’t quite understand what the entire sight was. And that the last thing that really got to me was that there was hardly any real value besides entertainment value. I actual found parts of it quite boring and just Leven being depressed for no reason.
It was an alright book, but I was excepting more out of it. I enjoyed parts, but not all of it like the past books that I read. I would recommend it if like children fantasy books.
